Meet The Team: Brown’s Shoe Fit Marshalltown

Local People. Personal Service. The Right Fit.

Behind every great Brown’s Shoe Fit Co. store is a team that genuinely cares — about shoes, yes, but more importantly about the people wearing them. At our Marshalltown, Iowa location, that’s exactly what you’ll find: a small, close-knit crew that has woven itself into the fabric of the community, one customer at a time. From house calls to nursing homes to the front door of the Iowa Veterans Home, the Brown’s Marshalltown team is redefining what it means to be a neighborhood shoe store.

The Faces Behind The Counter:

Tori Miller — Owner/Operator

I’ve been with Brown’s since May of 2022, and honestly, this opportunity kind of fell into my lap. I started my journey at the Brown’s store in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, before moving to the Longview, Texas location. Those experiences gave me a great foundation and helped prepare me for the opportunity to take over my own store.

Since becoming a store owner, I’ve learned that every community has its own unique challenges and opportunities. One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced has been the construction on Main Street. While it has made it more difficult for some customers to get downtown, it’s also encouraged me to find new ways to serve our community.

One thing I’ve especially enjoyed is finding ways to meet customers where they are. I’ve had the opportunity to visit the Iowa Veterans Home, make house calls to local nursing homes, and even deliver shoes directly to customers’ homes when getting downtown wasn’t convenient or possible. Being able to bring shoes directly to people and help them find the right fit has been incredibly rewarding. These experiences have allowed me to build relationships throughout the community and continue providing the personal service Brown’s is known for, despite the challenges created by the downtown construction.

The best part of this experience has been getting to know the people in Marshalltown and becoming part of the community. I’m grateful for the opportunities Brown’s has given me, and I’m excited to continue finding ways to serve our customers, support our community, and help our store grow.

“Being able to bring shoes directly to people and help them find the right fit has been incredibly rewarding.”

Wally Cash

My name is Wally Cash, and I’m the most important employee at Brown’s Shoe Fit in Marshalltown. Some people say my mom owns the store, but let’s be honest — we all know who’s really in charge around here.

I recently turned seven years old in January, and I’ve been with my mom ever since I was three months old. I’m a Basset Hound and Plott Hound mix, which means I have a great nose, a lot of personality, and some pretty impressive ears.

Most people know me from Wally Wednesday. That’s my special day at the store, although if you’re lucky, you might spot me working on a Monday or Friday too. Wally Wednesday started because everyone realized I needed to start pulling my weight around here. Plus, I really enjoy being the center of attention.

Now, despite my popularity, I’m not usually out on the sales floor all day. You’ll most likely find me hanging out in the office, supervising operations from behind the scenes. It’s important work. Someone has to make sure my mom stays focused and that the office remains fully stocked with treats.

When I’m not at work, I stay pretty busy. I enjoy going bye-bye in the car, wrestling with my brother Judson (he’s a cat, but don’t tell him that makes him different), and relaxing on the couch while watching Bluey. Some people think dogs don’t watch television. Those people are wrong.

I also have a few special talents. I can crawl, shake hands, and catch treats right out of the air. Speaking of treats, my favorites are bully sticks, pup cups, and cheeseburgers. In fact, my grandparents call me “Burger.” I like to think I’ve earned that nickname.

One of my favorite memories was celebrating my seventh birthday this past January. We had a Bluey-themed birthday party right here at the store, and it was amazing. There were decorations, lots of visitors, and plenty of attention — which, if you’ve met me, you know is one of my favorite things.

Over the years, I’ve become somewhat of a local celebrity. Every time I come to the store, people ask where I’ve been, stop by to say hello, and make sure I’m doing a good job. Sometimes I think more people in Marshalltown know me than they know my mom.

Brown’s Shoe Fit is more than just a shoe store — it’s a place where people come to visit, catch up with friends, and find shoes that keep them comfortable. I’m proud to be a small part of that, even if most of my work is done from the office.

So if you stop by on a Wednesday, don’t be afraid to ask about me. If I’m not busy supervising, I might even come out to say hello!

“Sometimes I think more people in Marshalltown know me than they know my mom.”

Jessica

Hi, I’m Jessica. I was born and raised in Marshalltown. I’m a pastor’s kid and have been involved in ministry for 16 years. I also spent many years working in the medical field before joining the Brown’s team a little over seven months ago. What I love about Brown’s is the connections I build with customers. Helping someone find the right shoe is about more than just comfort — it’s about listening and caring, and that’s something I bring with me every day.

Dani

Hi, my name is Dani, and I was born and raised in Marshalltown. I’m currently a high school student, and yes — I also love doing hair. I’ve been at Brown’s for about two months now, and my favorite thing about working here is honestly the team. We treat each other like family, and that energy comes through in how we treat our customers, too.

Part of Something Bigger: Local Loop

The Marshalltown team’s commitment to showing up – for veterans, nursing home residents, and neighbors who just can’t make the trip downtown – is a perfect example of what Brown’s Shoe Fit’s Local Loop is all about. Local Loop is Brown’s community partnership program, built on the belief that a great shoe store doesn’t just serve its community from behind a counter. It shows up. It builds relationships. It meets people where they are.

Whether it’s a house call, a visit to a care facility, or simply taking the time to get someone’s fit just right, the Marshalltown team lives that mission every day.
