The Top Women’s Comfort Athletic Shoes of the Central United States: Q3 2026 Rankings

By Mark Toms, eCommerce Manager, Brown’s Shoe Fit Co.

The short version: The number one women’s comfort athletic shoe in the Central United States for the third quarter of 2026 was the HOKA Bondi 9, with 11.9% of all best-seller pairs sold. The On Cloud 6 (9.9%), Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25 (9.9%), and HOKA Clifton 10 (9.8%) finished in a virtual three-way tie behind it. At Brown’s Shoe Fit Co., comfort is our number one priority. So instead of asking which sneakers are trending on social media, we asked a simpler question: which comfort athletic shoes are women in the heart of the country actually buying, wearing all day, and coming back for? The answer comes straight from the register. Below you will find the rankings, the charts, and what the numbers say about where women’s comfort footwear is headed.

The Winner: Brooks

Brooks had the best summer of any major women’s brand. Pairs sold grew 5.6% and sales grew 11.5%, lifting its share of women’s pairs from 23.8% to 25.7%. Brooks placed five shoes in the women’s top ten: the Adrenaline GTS 25, Glycerin 23, Ghost 18, Ariel GTS 26, and Glycerin GTS 23. That mix covers everything from plush neutral cushioning to maximum support, which is exactly why so many women find their fit in Brooks.

On grew pairs sold 1.8% and nudged its share up to 18.7%. The Cloud 6 is the second best-selling women’s shoe in the Central U.S., and the Cloud X 5, Cloudrunner 3, Cloudswift 4, Cloudsurfer 2, and Cloudsurfer Max all landed in the top twenty.

Still Number One: HOKA

HOKA remains the most popular women’s comfort athletic brand, with 30.4% of pairs sold and the number one shoe, the Bondi 9. Pairs sold dipped 5.1% from last summer, and its share moved from 31.3% to 30.4%. HOKA still placed four shoes in the top ten, and the new Clifton 11 is already the sixth best-selling women’s shoe as it takes over from the Clifton 10.

The Rising Stars:

Topo Athletic, Altra, Salomon, and Kizik

Topo Athletic was the fastest-growing brand with a real sales history. Pairs sold more than tripled (up 239%), and Topo climbed from 10th to 8th in our women’s brand rankings. Topo is known for a roomy, foot-shaped toe box and a low drop. The Topo Athletic Phantom 4 was its best seller.

Altra grew pairs sold 51.0% and sales 58.0%. Altra’s zero drop platform keeps the heel and forefoot level, and its FootShape toe box gives toes room to spread. That lines up with what we saw at the August Atlanta Shoe Market: more women want comfort that feels natural, not bulky. The Altra Torin 9 led the brand. Shop Altra at Brown’s.

Salomon grew pairs sold 39.8% on a small base, and Kizik moved past Skechers into fifth place with its hands-free shoes. Newer additions Mount to Coast and Diadora are still early in our lineup.

Slowing Down:

New Balance, Skechers, ASICS, and Saucony

New Balance pairs sold fell 17.0%, and its share dropped from 17.0% to 14.4%. It still holds a solid fourth place, led by the 928v3 walking shoe and the retro-inspired 327. Skechers pairs sold fell 19.3%, ASICS fell 21.7%, and Saucony fell 35.4%.

The HOKA Bondi 9 is the most popular women’s comfort athletic shoe in the Central U.S. It is HOKA’s most cushioned daily shoe, with a soft supercritical foam, a low 5 mm drop, and a wide base with heel sidewalls that make it feel steady for a neutral shoe. Women who stand or walk all day, including nurses, teachers, and retail workers, love it for its pillow-soft feel. Black/White, Faded Navy, Stardust/Silver, and Berry Jam were top colors.

2. On Cloud 6 (9.9%)

The On Cloud 6 is light, stylish, and easy to slip on thanks to elastic speed laces. On’s CloudTec cushioning pods and a Speedboard plate give it a smooth, springy step. It is the everyday shoe women wear to work, on errands, and while traveling. White/White was the single best-selling women’s color of the entire quarter, and the On Cloud 6 Wide added even more pairs.

3. Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25 (9.9%)

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25 is the top-selling women’s stability shoe in the Central U.S. Brooks’ GuideRails support system keeps the foot and knee moving in line without feeling stiff, and a softer midsole makes it comfortable for all-day wear. It is a go-to for women with flat feet or feet that roll inward.

4. HOKA Clifton 10 (9.8%)

The HOKA Clifton 10 is lighter and a little firmer than the Bondi, with an 8 mm drop and extra heel cushion compared to the last version. It is the balanced, do-everything HOKA for walking, running, and long days.

5. HOKA Gaviota 6 (6.5%)

The HOKA Gaviota 6 is HOKA’s maximum stability shoe. Its H-Frame system wraps support along the sides and center of the midsole, and it has a roomier forefoot than many stability shoes. It is the HOKA for women who need real support and still want that signature cushion.

6. HOKA Clifton 11 (5.9%)

The HOKA Clifton 11 is the newest version of HOKA’s best-known shoe, and women have already made it a top-six seller. The White/White colorway was one of the three best-selling women’s colors of the quarter. Expect it to keep climbing as it takes over from the Clifton 10.

7. Brooks Glycerin 23 (4.8%)

The Brooks Glycerin 23 is Brooks’ plush neutral shoe. It offers top-tier shock absorption and a flexible, comfortable ride for long days on your feet.

8. Brooks Ghost 18 (4.3%)

The Brooks Ghost 18 is the newest version of Brooks’ smooth, reliable neutral shoe, with moderate cushioning that works for walking, running, and everyday wear. It outsold the Brooks Ghost 17 two to one this summer.

9. Brooks Ariel GTS 26 (3.5%)

The Brooks Ariel GTS 26 is Brooks’ most supportive women’s shoe, the women’s version of the Beast. It pairs a front-to-back GuideRails system with soft DNA Loft v3 cushioning and a new RoadTack outsole. Women who need maximum stability, especially walkers and heel strikers, choose the Ariel.

10. Brooks Glycerin GTS 23 (3.1%)

Cushion vs. Support:

What Women in the Central U.S. Are Choosing

About a third of all women’s best-seller pairs were stability or motion control shoes like the Adrenaline GTS 25, Gaviota 6, Ariel GTS 26, and New Balance 928v3. That is one reason a proper fitting matters so much.

Cushion vs. Support: What Women Bought, Q3 2026

Stability and motion control — 32.5%
Hands-free, lifestyle, and casual — 5.1%

  • Stability and motion control (32.5%): Shoes like the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25, HOKA Gaviota 6, Brooks Ariel GTS 26, and New Balance 928v3. Best for flat feet, overpronation, or anyone who wants a more guided, secure step.

The Best-Selling Women’s Comfort Athletic Shoe From Every Brand

Looking for the most popular pick from a specific brand? Here is the top women’s style from each brand in Q3 2026.

What the Q3 2026 Numbers Tell Us

  • Quality over quantity. Women bought 2.4% fewer pairs than last summer, but sales held even. Women are investing in better, more supportive shoes.
  • Brooks has momentum. Five of the top ten women’s shoes are Brooks, and it gained more share than any other brand.
  • Max cushion still rules. The HOKA Bondi 9 is the number one women’s shoe, and neutral cushioned shoes made up 62.4% of best-seller pairs.
  • Support is mainstream. Four of the top ten shoes are stability styles, and about a third of best-seller pairs offered support.
  • Natural comfort is growing. Topo Athletic and Altra, both known for foot-shaped toe boxes and low or zero drop designs, were the fastest-growing brands.
  • New versions are coming on strong. The HOKA Clifton 11 and Brooks Ghost 18 are already top-ten shoes, pointing to a new set of leaders heading into Q4 2026.

How to Choose the Right Comfort Athletic Shoe

The most popular shoe is not always the right shoe for you. The best comfort athletic shoe is the one that fits your foot, your arch, and the way you move. Here is what to think about.

  • Know your arch. Flat feet or feet that roll inward often do best in a stability shoe like the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 25 or HOKA Gaviota 6. Neutral feet often prefer a cushioned shoe like the HOKA Bondi 9 or On Cloud 6.
  • Think about your day. If you stand or walk for hours, look for more cushion and a wide, stable base. If you want one shoe for work, the gym, and weekends, look at versatile styles like the On Cloud 6 or On Cloud X 5.
  • Get measured. Feet change over time, including after pregnancy and with age. Length, width, and arch height all affect fit, and many of these shoes come in wide widths.
  • Try before you decide. Two shoes with the same cushion numbers can feel very different on your foot.

That is where a Brown’s fitting makes the difference. Our fitters measure both feet, look at your arch and gait, and talk about how you spend your day before recommending a shoe. It is the same expert fitting we have always done, in 73 stores across the Central United States.
