Standing Room Only: Recapping the 2026 Des Moines Caravan Shoe Show in West Des Moines
Sales Reps From More Than 80 Brands & Retailers From All Over the Midwest — All Under One Roof
Every July, footwear people from across the Midwest pack into West Des Moines for one of the busiest weeks on the Brown’s Shoe Fit Co. calendar: the Des Moines Caravan Shoe Show. This year’s show, held July 13–14, once again proved why it’s become one of the region’s biggest buying events — a floor packed with brands, reps, and retailers all in one place, comparing notes on what’s coming next for the industry.
Brown’s has been part of this show for years, and it keeps growing. What used to be a solid regional event has turned into something retailers plan their whole summer around.
The Show Floor:
Every Brand Under One Roof
Between the main ballroom and the breakout rooms, this year’s show featured more than 80 brands represented by nearly 85 sales reps — a lineup that stretched from the household names to the small, specialty lines that Brown’s stores rely on to round out their fit options.
Walking the floor, you’d find heavyweight athletic and lifestyle brands like New Balance, Skechers, and Birkenstock a few booths down from comfort specialists like Naot and Samuel Hubbard, with outdoor and work brands like Merrell and Chaco mixed in throughout. That range is really the point — a retailer can walk one floor and see practically everything they need to plan a season, from the brands that sell themselves to the harder-to-find lines that set an independent shoe store apart.
Strong Turnout All Around
The energy on the floor matched the numbers. Brown’s alone brought roughly 65 stores’ worth of owners and staff, and the show drew in another dozen or so outside retailers who came to see what all the buzz was about. By the second day, the ballroom was standing room only — shoulder to shoulder between booths, lines at the popular tables, and reps working through back-to-back conversations from open to close.
It’s the kind of turnout that’s hard to fake. Retailers don’t drive in from across the Midwest and stand in a packed ballroom for two days unless a show is genuinely worth their time — and this one has earned that reputation.
A Show Built by Someone Who Gets It
A lot of the credit for how smoothly this show runs goes to Chad Johnson of Dansko, who organized this year’s event. Chad’s been close to this show for a long time, and it shows in how it comes together year after year.

Round Tables and a Look Ahead
Brown’s doesn’t stop when the shoe show wraps. The very next day, the team stays in town for our own Core Show — a chance for store owners to sit down together for round table discussions and hear directly from the General Office on the topics that matter most heading into the next year. That’s covered everything from inventory buying strategy to money management, marketing direction, and updates on the website, along with whatever else has come up as important for our stores over the course of the year.
Pairing the two events back-to-back means Brown’s owners get the best of both: a full look at what the industry has to offer, followed immediately by a chance to talk through how to put it to work in their own stores.
