Introducing the HOKA Arahi 9: Lighter, Wider, and Built for Everyday Stability

How HOKA’s Newest Stability Trainer Compares to the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24, New Balance 860v14, and On Cloudrunner 3

HOKA has just refreshed one of its most trusted everyday shoes. The Arahi 9 keeps the lightweight, guided-stability formula that’s made the Arahi line a go-to for runners and walkers with mild-to-moderate overpronation, while updating the upper and dialing in more room through the toe box.

The Arahi 9 lands in a well-established category. Nearly every major brand makes a lightweight, moderate stability trainer, so we lined the Arahi 9 up against three of the most popular: the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24, the New Balance 860v14, and the On Cloudrunner 3. Here’s what’s new, and how it compares.

What’s New: Meet the Arahi 9

The biggest change in the Arahi 9 is the upper: HOKA swapped the jacquard weave used on past versions for a more breathable engineered mesh, and widened the toe box for a more comfortable, secure fit. Underneath, the Arahi 9 uses HOKA’s enhanced H-Frame technology — a firmer strip of foam embedded into the midsole that guides the foot through the stride without feeling like a heavy-handed correction. It’s a similar concept to the J-Frame in past Arahi models, but refined for a smoother feel.

The Arahi 9 carries a 39mm/31mm heel-to-toe stack with an 8mm drop, weighs approximately 9.7 oz for a men’s size 9, and retails for around $155. It’s set to release October 1.

How the Arahi 9 Stacks Up Against the Competition

Here’s how the Arahi 9 compares to three of the other most popular lightweight stability trainers on the wall right now: the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 24, the New Balance 860v14, and the On Cloudrunner 3. All specs below are for a men’s size 9-9.5; women’s specs run slightly lighter across the board.

Who Should Reach for the Arahi 9?

The Arahi 9 is worth a try if you want guided support without feeling weighed down. At roughly 9.7 oz, it’s the lightest shoe in this group by a meaningful margin, while still matching or beating the stack height of the Adrenaline GTS 24 and 860v14. The wider toe box is also worth noting for anyone who’s found past Arahi models a little snug through the forefoot.

Runners who prefer a higher heel-to-toe drop and a firmer, more traditional stability feel may lean toward the Adrenaline GTS 24′s 12mm drop instead. Those who want a bit more plushness underfoot in a similar stability package might prefer the 860v14‘s Fresh Foam X midsole, and anyone who wants the lowest-to-the-ground, most grounded ride of the four should look at the On Cloudrunner 3.
