Behind every well-fitted pair of shoes at our St. Joseph store is a team that genuinely loves what they do — and who they do it with. Led by owner Elias Diaz, this crew brings a mix of experience, curiosity, and heart to the sales floor every day. Here’s a closer look at the people who make the St. Joseph store feel like home.

Meet the Owner

Elias Diaz leads the St. Joseph team as Owner & Operating Manager.

Elias has over a decade and a half of experience in the shoe business and has been running his own stores almost as long. He and his wife, Jackie, met running cross country and track in college, and both went on to graduate with bachelor’s degrees from Fort Hays State University. Together they’re raising two boys, seven-year-old Tobias and six-year-old Tavius, along with two dogs, May and Nuckles. They love cheering their kids on at their sporting events and exploring new places outdoors together as a family.

Elias got his start selling shoes in 2008 at Tradehome Shoes, then joined Brown’s Shoe Fit in 2010. He quickly found he loved the customer service side of the business — the day-to-day interactions with people — and stuck with Brown’s because he wanted the chance to be his own boss and build something for his family. He’s owned stores since 2015. After training in Hays, KS, and Norman, OK, Elias earned his first store in McPherson, KS. From there, his path took him to Liberal, KS, and then he and the family spent seven years in Farmington, NM, before they moved to St. Joseph on January 1, 2026, to be closer to family.

Now settling into their new community, the Diaz family is looking forward to what’s ahead — new adventures, new friends, and family close enough to visit.

Meet the Team

Ashley

Ashley has been part of the Brown’s family for 10 years, and it’s easy to see why she’s stuck around — she loves the person-to-person connection with customers. Being personable and helping people is what lights her up, and Brown’s has given her a path to do exactly that. At home, she has two cats, Cevin (with a C) and Subaru (like the car), and she spends her free time hiking and snowboarding. She also speaks Japanese and some Korean.

Joe Muldez

Assistant Manager

Joe Muldez is a manager trainee who recently made the move from Enid, OK to St. Joseph for the program — with a four-month-old in tow. He loves helping customers find the perfect fit and, true to his nature, never backs down from a challenge. Right now, he’s soaking up everything he can during training. Outside of work, you’ll likely find him grilling.

Summer

Summer has been with Brown’s for three years, and what keeps her coming back is the people — both her coworkers and the St. Joseph community. Her favorite shoe is the Brooks Adrenaline. She shares her home with two dogs, Millie and Knox, and is currently working toward becoming a teacher as a student teacher. When she’s not at the store or in the classroom, she enjoys spending time with her significant other, Lucas.

Kenzie

Kenzie is a full-time team member who enjoys helping customers while building skills that go well beyond the sales floor — problem-solving, communication, inventory management, and more. At home, she keeps busy with two cats (Moon and Star), a bird named Hermione, and a dog named Brutus. In her downtime, she loves diamond painting and playing video games.

Carleigh

Carleigh is a part-time team member who loves working alongside her coworkers just as much as she loves helping customers.Her go-to recommendation? The Brooks Glycerin or Glycerin Flex. Outside of the store, she’s a proud dog mom to two pups and makes it a priority to take a big family trip every year. She’s also currently going to school to become an X-ray tech.

Lilyjo

Lilyjo is a part-time team member who loves the people she works with just as much as she loves fitting customers into her favorite brand, the Birkenstock. At home, she has a corgi named Rocky. She’s currently going to school with big plans to one day own her own business.

Emily

Emily has been part of the team for a year and a half and loves the coworkers she gets to spend her days with. Her favorite styles to recommend are the New Balance 327 and the Boston Clog. She’s a military wife who loves a good vacation, and when she’s not backpacking or cheering on a soccer match, she’s happily napping. Her cat, Sookie, rounds out the household.
